Staying abreast of Search Engine Optimization or SEO often feels like you're putting in a 80-hour week. After all, the search engines are always changing their minds about how to measure your site's relevance. Within a few months, the page ranks shift. So what you worked so hard to accomplish this month may be much further down the list next month. You can't celebrate getting a front page Google ranking because in a month it may be on page sixty. It all hinges on just how much the spiders visit your site. The fact is, however, that SEO is an important part of internet marketing. In order to do well financially on the internet as a marketer, you need to educate yourself fully on the use of SEO. Here are some tips and tricks that you can use on your next project.
The search engines are very picky about what they will allow and what they will not allow. Most major search engines also change their spiders to different criteria often. Therefore, instead of having to revise your site's content and start marketing from scratch whenever you're made aware that Google has changed an algorithm, use these proven SEO techniques as you develop your website or structure your marketing venture. Make sure you know the major points of what you are allowed and not allowed to do and follow the rules. The worst thing an internet marketer can do is get on the wrong side of the search engines. You traffic will drop off drastically if you your site gets de-indexed because you failed to follow the rules.
Do not be tempted by "black hat" SEO techniques like stuffing a bunch of keywords at the bottom of your page but making the text white so that it matches the page background or stuffing a bunch of keywords under your image files. Spamming your website like this will just get you banned and that won't help you at all. If someone says, 'this is completely legit!' but you know it sounds too good to be, then follow your gut. If something sounds like it's a scam or a way to get over, then it is. And you will end up caught and penalized. Go with what is effective. Resist letting yourself be dragged down.
Don't try to optimize for more than one keyword at a time. For each page or post you put up on your page, center on one keyword phrase. When you try to do more than that, your writing suffers. It becomes cluttered and awkward to read. Remember, you want your content to be readable and enjoyable. Trying to spam your posts with all keyword phrases will make the content low in quality, making visitors less likely to click on them. Always remember that search engine spiders are important, but readers matter more!
SEO is no big mystery. Search Engine Optimization equals text, links, popularity and reputation. That's really all there is to it. You really won't have to worry about much else as long as you know how to deal with these four, important factors. And even if you aren't trying to optimize your site for the search engines, they should be your key areas of concern. Don't stress out too much about keeping up with the rest of the fad SEO tricks. They'll die out every time a new page ranking is issued by Google. In lieu of that, just make your content as good as it can be and your SEO will do the rest!
