You do want your blog readers to feel some commitment to you because that means they are loyal. Maybe the single most powerful way to make that happen is with your content, and then you can employ other means, too. Increasing your RSS subscribers is one way to drive back targeted traffic to your blog. But, you know, what this really means for those who neglect RSS is they are not looking at their tools in the right way. You have to make smart use of RSS, and the way to do that is by marketing in such as way that people become subscribers.

We have seen way too many blogs make the following mistake with their blogs and RSS. Never to with a small RSS image or icon because it is too easy for people to ignore it. You can even go beyond what most people do and drop hints around your blog to subscribe to your RSS. Don't worry about how it looks because nowadays having big, action oriented icons is in fashion. Just as with so many other things, you have to look at the whole process. If you are ever unsure about how to situate the icon for your RSS feed, then for starters is goes above the fold. Most blog themes will automatically place it at the top right in the right hand column, but you should do more with that. You never want people to ignore your RSS feed, and you could even create a little sales page highlighting all the reasons to subscribe. You can and really should put your icon for that in multiple locations in addition to above the fold so you get maximum exposure.

The subscribers to your RSS feed want to know that they are subscribing to valuable content. If your blog is nothing but rehashed content, why would someone actually subscribe to it? The value that your readers derive from your posts depends on various factors. If you know your audience, you should be able to find something that appeals to the people in it and use that to get them to read your stuff. For example, if your blog talks about technology related news then publishing breaking news might offer your readers the value that they want.

As a blogger you have to realize the power of RSS. If you've got RSS subscribers who enjoy your content, you won't ever need to go out and drum up traffic.

The only thing is, you can't build a large base of subscribers overnight. It takes a while before you can see results. But that's okay, because as long as you're focused on giving value, the growth of your subscribers should be steady. You just need to make sure that you're taking really consistent action to increase your subscriber base as regularly as possible.
