Playing poker in online poker rooms has a couple of advantages over playing at a land-based casino table. Of course, there are disadvantages as well, and to the majority of players, the fact that you can’t physically hold your hand of cards in your corporeal hand is already a deal breaker. The most obvious cons are because of the fact that there’s really only so much modern technology can render from real to virtual. Then again, if you play poker often, you might begin to think of online and {real-traditional poker games as two similar yet distinctly separate games altogether; and if you truly love the game, it shouldn’t make a difference whether your cards are in your hands or on your computer. But exactly how similar and how distinct are virtual poker and real-life poker, anyway? Let’s take a look at some pros and cons-focusing on the pros-of playing over the internet compared to playing on an actual casino felt table.
For starters, the internet encourages anonymity and privacy. Maybe this isn’t obvious in today’s world of social media where anyone can be stalked using a search engine, but at least when it comes to certain venues such as online poker tables, players are not forced to relinquish any personal data with other players. What’s more is that you don’t need to show your face-which means opposing players} can’t tell or read your body expressions. Even with webcam technology, sharing is limited. This works both ways though since you can’t see your opponents either. This can be a godsend to card-players who want to zone in on the cards and statistics aspect of poker.

The mix of players available is an obvious plus point of playing online poker, as the internet breaks the old boundaries of demographics and geography. It will be difficult to experience the same kind of game twice, or even play with the same person more than once, especially if you’re a member of several online poker tables. Expect exciting competition from all overthe globe}.
What don’t affect the gameplay per se are promotions, bonuses and comp points. Once again, online poker sites shine in this matter, due to the low operational costs compared to land-based casinos. The poker bonus for websites often amounts to an insane amount of free cash credits. That said, traditional casinos can directly and on-the-spot offer more comps to card-players since these casinos in most cases also manage a network of high-class restaurants and hotels.
Maybe it’s time we quit comparing both formats and accept that online poker can be played for its own sake, with its own idiosyncratic playing styles and strategies. After all, as technology continues to develop, the boundary between virtual and real also starts to disappear, and in a few decades it’s possible that physical cards would become artifacts of bygone times.
